 For the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Host Town Initiative

 The Host Town Initiative aims to promote human, economic and cultural exchange between local authorities and participating countries/areas on the occasion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This initiative is expected to contribute to making Japan a “Sports Nation”, encouraging globalization, revitalization of local areas and promoting inbound tourism.
Hiratsuka was registered as a Host Town on January 26th , 2016.

Selection of the Country

 In November 2015, Mr. Egidijus Meilunas, His Excellency of the Republic of Lithuania visited Mayor of Hiratsuka and observed athletic facilities in the city. We decided working on being the Host Town for the Republic of Lithuania with this visit as a start.
The exchange programs in sports, culture, education, and economy are included in this project. The international exchange would continue in each fields even after the Games.

Plan of Exchange

 Hiratsuka applied as a Host Town in cooperation with Kanagawa Prefecture. In addition to hosting the Pre-games Training Camps, the academic exchange and sending the delegation of citizens are planned.
